Check Your System For Rootkits

Linux versus other operating systems come pretty secure out of the box. However it is not completely free from attacks. One such attack and malware is called root kits. These if installed allows a hacker full open access to your system.

There are however scanners you can install which will help. Below I will show you how to install and run these scans

Install RKHunter

Run RKHunter Scanner

You need to update then check for root kits, you can do this via 3 commands:

The scan can take a little while as it has to look at all of the files on your / partition. As it scans it will output any findings or warnings. A finding is bad but not all warnings are bad, most are false positives but you need to look into them just to be on the safe side

Install CHKRootkit

Run CHKRootkit

Like the rkhunter scan it can take a little while as it has to look at all of the files on your / partition. As it scans it will output any findings or warnings. A finding is bad but not all warnings are bad, most are false positives but you need to look into them just to be on the safe side
