Restart X Via Keyboard
More power users would remember this than normal users but you used to be able to restart X by pressing CTRL ALT and BACKSPACE keys at once. To get this back open up a terminal and type sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, when the configuration file is displayed add the following text to it
Save and exit the text editor. To make sure your changes have stuck restart your system. Now any time you need to restart X due to any hickup or freeze just use the keyboard.
